We have a summer house on Læsø, and have been to the seafood dinner at Krogbækgård for a couple of years. We have always been very satisfied. The food is good (really good), the atmosphere is great and the only small blemish in the joy is that it takes them an incredibly long time to make drinks. But when everything else is in order, you can of course forgive the fact that it takes them 10 minutes to make a simple Dark’n’Stormy. They make it really well, by the way.
But this year something has changed. We had guests on holiday, and of course we had to show them the lovely island and all the good places. So we had booked the seafood dinner and the wild boar evening. And wait, there has been a slide in the wrong direction
The seafood dinner. The food was super nice, but all buffets have their own challenges. Unfortunately, we only got a tiny taste of the crab claws, as they had been vacuumed up by greedy people who were first in line. We saw several people who, right from the start, ran down to their seats with plates in both hands, overflowing with crab claws, and then came back to get accessories. We each got 1-2 small crab claws. Drinks again took a really long time, which was a bit hard to forgive when you were annoyed that your greed was given free rein. And yes, it is the staff's responsibility to keep an eye on things like that. Guests should not get into big discussions with people who don't know how to share.
Wild boar evening. The wild boar was a huge disappointment. It was dry, tough and had an incredibly strong gamey flavor. There were 7 of us in the party, and only 1 was very satisfied. Fortunately, all the accessories were really delicious, so we still had a really nice dinner. But when you come for the wild boar, it is a bit disappointing that you don't have a better handle on preparing it. And here things went completely wrong with the drinks. We waited 40!! minutes for 2 small strawberry daiquiris. Not because there was a queue, but simply because the young man had not made them before! He apologized many times, and was clearly frustrated about it, but honestly, it shouldn't take 40 minutes to make a relatively simple drink. Of course, we didn't stand around stressing him while he made drinks, we sat at the table and waited, but we could see that he was struggling with them.
We doubt whether we will try again next year. We have completely given up on the wild boar evening. We will not do that again. We may give the seafood evening another chance. But then we will line up from the start, so that we can have some of the good crab claws.
We give 4 stars despite the fact that this year's experiences have not been worth more than 2. But the place is charming and we will not lower the average. And honestly, if you take away the crab claws and wild boar meat, the side dishes alone are worth 5 stars.
