La Cabra is a special bakery whose reputation extends far beyond the borders of Denmark. Accordingly, it always appears when you search online for the best bakeries in Denmark.
We also visited during our trip to Aarhus. The bakery is extremely stylishly furnished, clean, and features a viewing window into the bakery. The pastries are neatly displayed, each piece individually presented as if to be given special attention.
You can tell that La Cabra doesn't just want to be a bakery, but also aims to function as a brand with its Nordic purity. It's a shame there's no seating inside. Perhaps this was a deliberate choice to emphasize the tranquility of the shop? At least there's a bench outside the bakery where you can sit if you don't want to take your pastries to go or eat them elsewhere.
We opted for the classic cardamom bun and a cinnamon roll.
The cardamom bun was visually stunning. Exquisitely crafted, intricately shaped, and simply beautiful to behold.
The flavor was wonderfully buttery and sweet, with just the right amount of cardamom. The dough was soft yet chewy—not in a negative way, but rather in a way that prevented it from crumbling and offered a satisfying texture. Truly an outstanding pastry!
The cinnamon roll was different. It had a flaky, marbled, and slightly crispy dough with a light and airy bite. The cinnamon flavor was intense, and the roll was coated in a delicious glaze. Unexpected, but equally delicious. Presumably, it's a signature pastry, not an attempt to replicate the classic cinnamon roll, but rather, like the cardamom bun, a unique contrast.
We were absolutely impressed by both pastries and, like many before us, wholeheartedly recommend La Cabra to every visitor to Aarhus.

We got a cinnamon bun, a cardamom bun, and a rye bread here. We haven't tasted the bread yet, but the 2 coffee cakes were very good.👌
If you aren't from Denmark, it is very pricey. (For 2 coffee cakes and 1 loaf, you currently pay around €10 in Belgium; here it was €19). But, still happy with our purchase; it was very good quality and very tasty! 😋

A very, very nice place with not a lot of selection, but this allows for high quality. All the desserts on display are beautiful and very tasty.
Only a little higher prices than other places.

This was the best sourdough bun I’ve ever had! Try the seeded bun with cheese. You won’t regret it.

We had a cardamome bun and a cinnamon one and it was excellent!
Of course it’s full of sugar but everyone deserves a little treat and La Cabra is the best place to have it

La Cabra was quite busy when we visited on a Friday morning, which meant a long queue to order and a considerable wait for our food. The staff were friendly, but service could have been more efficient during the rush. The menu is fairly limited, so there aren’t many options to choose from, and we found the prices to be very high for what is offered. The atmosphere has a very eclectic, almost esoteric feel that won’t appeal to everyone, especially with the loud and unusual music playing while we were there. That said, the quality of the food was excellent. The bread was the best I’ve had in Denmark, and the croissants were incredibly fresh. If you don’t mind the wait and the premium prices, it’s still worth a visit for the bakery alone.

It's a bakery with a wide variety of pastries. I really liked the atmosphere; it looks very clean and well-maintained, and it's always busy, which is a good sign that it's a trustworthy place. I bought a chocolate pastry, and it was delicious—it's become one of my favorites. I definitely recommend it; the girl who served me was very friendly.

I ordered the cardamom latte and the BMO. Starting with the latte: it was well spiced, had a really good level of sweetness, and was just incredibly smooth.
Now onto the BMO. My friend told me that when I went to Denmark, I had to try one, but at every other place I visited, nothing on the bread front really enticed me enough to order it. I kept going for saffron buns or cardamom buns instead. At La Cabra, I finally decided to order the BMO and break my BMO virginity, and oh my god, it was life changing.
I’ll admit I was skeptical. A roll with cheese and butter? How good could that really be? I’m happy to report I was completely wrong. It was seriously one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had, and I think it comes down to how beautifully the bread was baked, paired with the quality of the cheese and butter.
Wow. No notes. I genuinely wish I lived close enough to have an endless supply of La Cabra’s BMOs.
